Hinds Circuit Drug Court graduation set for July 28 July 26, 2021 Twenty-six people are expected to graduate from the Hinds Circuit Drug Intervention Court during a ceremony at 6 p.m. on July 28. The ceremony will be held on the second floor of the Hinds County Courthouse at 407 East Pascagoula Street in Jackson. Circuit Judge Winston Kidd, who oversees the Hinds Circuit Drug Court, will preside. District Attorney Jody Owens and Public Defender Gail Lowery will attend and offer encouragement to the graduates. Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to wear masks, Judge Kidd said. Guests are limited to no more than three per graduate. Only those who are graduating are required to attend. Ordinarily, all intervention court participants assemble to celebrate graduation, but this ceremony will be for graduates only to reduce the size of the crowd and allow for social distancing. Intervention courts seek to rehabilitate drug-using offenders through drug treatment and intense supervision with drug testing and frequent court appearances. Intervention courts provide participants access to resources and opportunities they need by coordinating the efforts of the judiciary, prosecution, defense counsel, probation, law enforcement, treatment, mental health and social service providers. This offers participants the opportunity to become productive, law abiding citizens and reduces recidivism. #### |
